Is selling handmade jewelry halal?

Imam Ibn Abidin (RA) states in Radd al-Muhtar (the authoritative Hanafi Fiqh reference) that the sale of any item that has a permissible benefit is valid, and the sale of items that are pure (Tahir) and beneficial is lawful. 3. To benefit the Ummah: Intend to provide a beautiful, modest, and permissible product to your customers, bringing them joy without violating Shariah.
4. To be independent and not be a burden on others: Intend to be a productive member of society.
5. To fulfill your religious obligations: Intend that by earning Halal wealth, you will be able to fulfill your obligations like Zakat, Hajj, and supporting your family.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Actions are judged by intentions, and every person will get what he intended." (Sahih al-Bukhari). If your intention is pure, your business becomes an act of worship.

Answer to Question 3: Specifically, What Intention and Category of Items are Haram to Sell?

The Intention (Niyyah) That Makes a Business Haram:

• Intending to deceive or cheat: If you intend to lie about the quality of your product, hide defects, or use false advertising, this is Haram.
• Intending to facilitate sin: If you intend to sell something that will help someone commit a sin (e.g., selling a product to a person you know will use it for a Haram purpose).
• Intending to hoard (Ihtikar): If you intend to hoard essential goods to inflate prices and harm people, this is Haram.
• Intending to deal in Riba (interest): If you intend to engage in interest-based transactions, this is a major sin.

The Category of Items That Are Haram to Sell:

The Prophet (ﷺ) explicitly forbade the sale of specific categories. The general rule is: "Whatever Allah has forbidden to use, it is forbidden to sell." (Radd al-Muhtar).

The following categories are Haram to sell:

1. Alcohol (Khamr) and all intoxicants: The Prophet (ﷺ) cursed ten people involved with alcohol, including the one who sells it. (Sunan Abi Dawud, Tirmidhi).
