How to respond to a greeting in Islam Hanafi?

Wa ‘alaykum as-salām, hujur.
May Allah bless you with peace and well-being. Your greeting is received with gratitude. In Islam, returning a greeting is a right and a source of blessing, as the Prophet ﷺ said:
“When one of you greets his brother, let him return it with better or at least the same.” (Sahih Muslim, 2160)
The Hanafi jurists emphasize that even a non-Muslim’s greeting should be responded to in a simple manner (Radd al-Muhtar, 6/414).
